Over the last year and a half I have been working towards my completing my Bachelor in Early Childhood Education at University. A new aspect of this is the dreaded LANTITE (Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students). This test has been designed to assess initial teacher education students' person literacy and numeracy skills. Ultimately that would like new teachers to prove that they are in the top 30% of the Australian population in both literacy and numeracy before they allow them to complete their final placement and become a registered teacher. Students have three chances to sit and pass the test, with some education providers allowing an additional two sittings to those who can prove that they are working and studying in order to attempt again.
There is much debate about this test and whether or not it is providing enough differentiation for students who may not be able to pass. Being in my second or four years of study, I made the decision to take my first attempt, so that I have time in case I don't pass.
During my studying process I discovered Facebook pages dedicated to supporting students pass the test, some which pushed different tutoring programs and others which were solely students supporting students with shared knowledge and information.
I spent many hours studying and preparing for my test, and I still will not find out how I went for another few weeks. However, during my studying I developed a handy guide to help me to learn, practice, revise and familiarise myself with various different aspects of both numeracy and literacy in order to prepare for the test.
This has led me to create a resource that I believe is incredibly valuable to others who are preparing to sit the LANTITE, and I would love to continue to add and grow this resource to further help others.
The resource has been designed as cue cards, which can be printed either 2 or 4 to a page, for use to concisely and quickly explain different concepts.
In the future I would love to make larger or in-depth guides, that focus on different aspects, and I would love to hear back from anyone who has any ideas or comments as to what they would like to see, or need these to look like.
I would love to see these resources grow and adapt using customer feedback, suggestions and advice, so that they are full and current, to help everyone.
